A hotel close to Nagoya station is great jump off point for taking day trips with the Shinkansen and other JR lines passing through. Via Inn Nagoya Station Tsubaki-cho was the best hotel choice for being in a mostly quiet area. Interestingly there is another Via Inn hotel a few of yards away, but i think this one is the better of the two.

Hotel came with a free breakfast buffet although not the best choice if you’re looking for variety. Other than that, the hotel is Japan standard with basic amenities good enough for a short stay.

+ very nice and helpful staff
+ new hotel with modern decor
+ awesome lobby restroom ūüėä
+ relaxing lobby area
+ great breakfast buffet, lots of variety
+ big bed (double room)
+ room doors open outward (which is great for leaving luggage by the door)
+ microwave, laundry, cooking plate, refrigerator inside room
+ very close to Odori station and park
+ many shops and restaurants nearby above and below ground (Pole Town, Aurora Town, Mistukoshi, Parco, Tanukikoji, etc)
+ Sapporo city tram only 1 block away

Рbuffet little on pricey side 1500¥
– nothing else to complain about

Via Inn Nagoya Station Tsubaki-cho is easily accessed by train or airplane depending on your departure point – about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Tokyo Station Shinkansen. From Sapporo our flight took 1 hour and 45 minutes , then another 40 minutes to Nagoya Station by train.
