Hoshokaku in lovely Takayama was my 4th onsen ryokan experience after Hotel Tamanoyu in Matsumoto, Yudanaka Tawaraya Ryokan and Aburaya Tousen in Yamanouchi.

It was a hard choice between Gero and Takayama Onsen, but I decided on Takayama from a friend’s recommendation (Thank you Nancy!).

Why Hoshokaku? They were very fast answering questions and one of the few ryokan with in-room open air onsen. I’m very happy about choosing Hoshokaku over other ryokan.

+ super nice lovely friendly staff 😊😊😊
+ shuttle service from and to Takayama Station to Hoshokaku (just let them know when your train/bus will arrive to Takayama Station) THANK YOU!
+ beautiful lobby area
+ large lovely Japanese style room with private onsen (5th floor rooms)
+ relaxing futon beds
+ refrigerator
+ spectacular view of city from room
+ women only spa area is excellent (said my wife 😂)
+ Hida beef dinner and Japanese breakfast mega delicious 🤤🤤🤤
+ shortcut to town and Nakahashi bridge in front of ryokan (Hoshokaku is located up a hill)

↓ nothing to complain about
